Home Security Window Bars

July 31, 2008

by Terry Shoulders

Are you interested in installing home security window bars? The initial step in selecting home window security bars is figuring out how they are going to be used. Will the bars be applied for safety reasons (to prevent kids and pets from going out windows) or is protection the reason (discourage and prevent burglary or home invasion)?

Home security window bars are available in three ways: fixed, hinged and removable. Picking out the correct style is an issue of utilization. Saw-resistance and tamper resistive hardware are other considerations.

Fixed home security window bars, as understood by their name, are not capable of being opened once they are installed. They’re obtainable in several different sizes and are usually the cheapest style. Customers have an option of numerous distinct designs, from basic to luxury style bars.

Hinged or swinging home security window bars swing clear for fixing and cleansing. They may be padlock latched and come in a multitude of sizes.

A third type of home security window bar is the removable kind. The removable type can be removed at some point in the future should the resident decide they are on longer necessary or required.

Once a decision is arrived at as far as the type of window bar to buy, the next measure is to size the bars to correctly accommodate the window(s). In order for security bars to accommodate the window, measurements must be made of the window opening. This equals the distance measuring the interior of the window frame.

There are a multitude of companies where home security window bars can be purchased. They also can be purchased online through home security stores and auction sites. Homeowners who are thinking of installing their own bars can obtain parts from any decent supplier.

Should a homeowner choose to pay a pro to set up the security bars, they’ll need to choose a honorable company. References and names and telephone numbers of satisfied clients are usually given to a possible customer if they are wanted.

It is absolutely essential to choose a high quality window security bar. They ought to be made up of saw-resistant, hardy materials. Any bar that may be easily destroyed or abstracted obviously doesn’t furnish a great deal of security.

Small Renovations With A Few Great Bathroom Design Ideas

July 31, 2008

by Adam Peters

When you have a few good bathroom design ideas ready to go, you may find yourself running into some small projects along the way. With small bathroom renovations, you can find yourself with major headaches quickly when there are small problems that end up being larger problems including those with plumbing and electrical problems.

The size of the bathroom itself is not necessary going to help you to stay within a budget, unless you plan ahead. When Size Hurts One of the many troubles people have with bathroom design ideas is handling problems around the small size. You may find that there is not enough space in the area and this will cause delays as well as problems getting started.

More so, you will be limited to where things can be moved. Even the door may be too small to get large bathtubs into it. In some construction jobs, the final walls were not put in until all of the fixtures and tubs were in place, which means that your home could have been built around that tub! Another problem with the small space is the floor covering and wall covering. While you will need less, you may find that the tight space limits the area where you can put it in, and makes the cutting and fitting job more difficult than it should be. You may need additional space in another section of the home to get the cutting done.

Floor Plan Changes

In some small bathroom designs, it may become impossible to change the layout of the bathroom. It may be that there is only one wall that is large enough to accommodate the bathtub in that area. If you try to move it to another area, you may not have enough room for something else. When considering your bathroom design ideas, keep in mind that you do need to consider how the layout can be changed successfully.

In most cases, small changes in the layout and bathroom design can happen in a small bathroom renovation. In other situations, they may need to stay, which may limit what you can do to updating fixtures and improving the overall appearance of the room. Still, it may not fit your overall goal. To make the room seem larger, brighten up the colors you select from the walls and the flooring. This gives it the appearance of looking larger and will improve the overall look.

Advantages of Iron Deck Railings

The Versatile Iron Deck Railing

Deck railings are available in a variety of styles, colors and materials. For years wood has been the material of choice for decks and deck railings. With the many changing styles of homes, the styles of decks are changing as well. Although many decks are still being made with wood, railings are often made of a different material, such as an iron deck railing. Wrought iron deck railings are made in hundreds of exquisite designs by expert craftsmen to bring a look of elegance and class to your home.

Iron Railings Are the Perfect Choice For Your Deck

The wrought iron deck railing has risen in popularity in recent years as builders and home owners are keeping with the trends of the world. Iron has risen to become the most popular choice for deck railing material. This popularity is due to the many designs, colors and styles available as well as its strength and longevity. Iron railings are available in cast iron and wrought iron.

Cast iron railings are made by melting metal and then pouring it into molds to develop the shape or design desired. Wrought iron, on the other hand, is created by heating the iron until it’s red hot. At this point, it becomes shaped into desired shapes by heavy pressure with a mechanical hammer. This process makes it extremely durable and strong as well as making it more rust resistant. For the purpose of deck railings, wrought iron is more popular than cast iron.

Multiple Advantages of Iron Railings

Although wrought iron railings may be created in a way to make them more rust resistant, they still need to be painted as a preventative measure against corrosion from moisture and weather conditions. You won’t want to use any kind of paint, as there are specific paints that are made for wrought iron and will provide an attractive and very durable finish.

To get the most protection against rusting and corrosion, you may want to get wrought iron railings that have been painted with a factory-applied powder coated finish. This finish provided a complete coating down to every little pore of the iron. When wrought iron railings get the correct protection, they are far better for deck railings than vinyl, PVC and wood as well as having the longest life span.

Another advantage to iron railings is that they come in hundreds of shapes, designs and patterns to embellish the beauty of your deck and railings. Not only will wrought iron railings enhance the beauty of your deck but your home as well.

Interior Design & Decorating Tips for an Efficient Laundry Room

July 31, 2008

by Jeanine Naviaux

After a lot of thinking what I wanted in a laundry room I knew the last thing I wanted to do is to wait for the dryer.

So I decided to buy 2 stackable dryers at Sears and bolted them together. It doesnt sound simple, let me explain. Initially I make sure to purchase gas dryers. After I hired a licensed electrician and he made sure there was enough power in the laundy room for both dryers. Then we took the exhaust hose from each dryers and connected them so they could vent outside. This was eight years ago, and I still love it!

Also, what helps is that I bought a front loader washing machine. It’s more expensive in the beginning but it’s worth its weight in gold when it comes to energy and water consumption. What I have discovered is that the spin cycle gets more water out than a top loader so my dryer time is about 20 minutes. The other great thing about the front loader is that it has a 8 hour delay button. So, I can set it at 10pm and by the morning, the laundry is ready to go into the dryer! Pretty cool!

Another thing that I have in my laundry room is a Kohler Executive Chef sink. You guesed right is a sink meant for the kitchen but I love it because it has two different sink depths. It is works great when you are hand-washing items.

This is why I love being an interior designer, because I get to solve problems having details in mind.

Getting The Perfect Desk For Your Office

July 31, 2008

by Adam Peters

The Important Role a Desk Plays In Your Home Office

Today more people than ever are starting their own business as their main source of income or in addition to their regular job as a means of supplementing their income. These people often have their business in their home and therefore have an office of some sort.

Whether you go with fancy or casual furniture, one of the first pieces of furniture you’ll get will be a desk. A desk is probably the most important piece of furniture in your home office.

Setting Up Your Home Office

Many people choose to start their own business at home as a way to get away from the everyday hassle of working elsewhere in an office, factory or where ever. They don’t even understand the importance of having an office, much less a desk. They soon discover that having their own business can be demanding and very stressful, especially without proper organization. The best way to have organization is with details of your business. These details will need to be stored somewhere and a desk in the optical choice.

Make Your Home Office Work

The one mistake many home owners make is not taking their “job” or home business serious enough. They don’t want to invest the time and money into putting in an office so they’ll have their own space for their business. Regardless of what type of business you own, you will need to have paperwork, supplies, invoices, tax forms, etc. These are all important parts of a business and need to be kept in a safe spot.

Again, the need for an office or desk presents itself. Your family may be 100% supportive of your home business, but they will still be a distraction when you are trying to work. As long as they seen you in a room they would feel as though you were “available” to them. However, if you’re in your office, they’ll realize you’re working.

A Quality Desk Makes The Difference

Even if you can’t afford to put in an entire office, you’ll want to at least get a desk to store all those important papers that are a large part of a business. You wouldn’t want one of the kids to use the back of an important invoice for a scratch pad, right? There is something about a desk that will indicate it’s “off limits” to the rest of the family and especially you when you’re sitting there. There are many styles of desks available.

If you like the idea of casual furniture, there are casual office desks that are very high quality. What ever you decide on, start shopping for your new desk as soon as possible.

importance of drinking water

July 31, 2008

by Thomas Manso

Here, we look at the health benefits of drinking water. You may be surprised to learn about the importance of drinking water. You know you can’t live without it, but you may not know that increasing your intake can improve the way that you feel and even the way that you look.

If you suffer from dry skin, you are probably using a moisturizer. But, are you getting enough water? The cosmetic benefits of drinking water include softer skin and healthier looking hair.

You can also benefit from a showerhead filter that removes chlorine from water. The chemical is very drying to your scalp. Beauty experts used to say that it was hot water that dried out the skin and the hair, but I have tried putting the shower on cold or lukewarm and there was no improvement, until I got a chlorine filter.

Now my hair is soft and shiny. But, those are cosmetic benefits and we are here to talk about the importance of drinking water for your health.

The complete health benefits of drinking water are discussed in a book labeled “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water”. It is actually a collection of research conducted by medical experts. They explain how many of the pain sensations we experience are due to severe or acute dehydration.

For example, headaches are related to water intake. The importance of water to the brain has to do with its fluid content. 75% of the brain’s weight is fluid. About 50% is found in the form of essential fatty acids.

When either one is absent, the brains initial response is to produce histamines, which cause fatigue. It’s a natural defense mechanism, meant to conserve fluids and prevent dehydration or even death.

We have learned that metabolism is slowed down by fad diets, because the body believes you have a shortage of food. The production of histamine is meant to “slow you down”, so that you don’t use up more any more liquids.

The benefits of drinking water may include fewer headaches. Pain relievers may shut down the signal and relieve the pain, but the sluggishness will still be present. That’s why several medical experts have written about the importance of drinking plenty of water to those who suffer from chronic fatigue.

The benefits of drinking water apply to back pain, as well. The discs in the back are like little shock absorbers. They have an outer shell of flexible joint tissue that is filled with fluid pockets. A properly hydrated disk absorbs the normal shock of physical activity and supports the weight of the upper body.

They are self-hydrating as long as long as a person recognizes the importance of drinking water in maintaining adequate fluid levels. When a fully hydrated, the outer shell of the disc supports 25% of the weight load and the fluid supports 75%. When they become dehydrated, the shell has to support a larger portion of the load, causing pain and swelling.

There are many other health benefits of drinking water, including weight maintenance So, remember to drink for your health.

The Beauty of Cedar Deck Railing

July 31, 2008

by Adam Peters

The Importance of Good Railings For Your Home

Stair railings are a necessary component of stairs that lead either to the upper or lower level of your home. This is the legal description of stair railings. They are, however, more than just that in your home. They offer protection from family members and guests accidentally falling off the stairs as well as being very complimentary to the overall decor of your home. Cedar deck railing is very popular for outdoor decks while wood or vinyls are both used inside the home.

If you’re building or remodeling your home, you’ll be amazed when you see the many different designs, styles and materials there are available for railings for deck stairs and staircases inside the home.

The style you choose will depend on your personal taste and preference. There are simple and plain designs for a casual or country design, while artistic and elegant designs can be used for a real touch of style and class. Long staircases have always been popular in homes and continue to be popular.

With the ever-popular decks being built all the time, you’ll want to take the time to decide which style of railing you want on your deck. Although a little more costly than most woods, cedar deck railing always looks great, especially with proper treatment. The most important thing when choosing deck railing is to use a material that can withstand the elements of weather, which can be very hard on certain materials.

Building Safe Railings

Besides as home decor, the main reason for stair railings is to prevent people from falling off the stairs and injuring themselves. Make sure the handrail and baluster are both sturdy enough to withstand the amount of weight that they’ll encounter.

Another safety factor is the space between the balusters, which should not be more than 4 inches. Certain laws are in effect regarding stairways and railings. Any size larger than 4 inches may cause a problem with a small child slipping through or being stuck and being injured.

Materials For Stair Railings

Many different materials can be used for building your stair railings including wood, vinyl, composites and metal. Aluminum railings can have different finishes such as powder coated, brushed silky look or brightly polished. They all look great and are a matter of personal preference. Wrought iron, brass, bronze or cast iron are all used to make metallic railings, which are also popular. Many people choose to mix and match materials.

For instance, they’ll use wood on the floor and vinyl cap rails on cedar deck railings. The most important thing to remember is to use the materials that will last the longest and withstand the most perils like weather, rotting or insects.

Low Cost Car Insurance or Proper Liability Coverage?

July 31, 2008

by Joseph Welusz

You will never know how much insurance coverage you will need until you need it, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. First let’s take a look at what Auto Insurance Liability covers. There are two parts to your liability coverage the first is bodily injury liability and the second is property damage liability.

Bodily Injury liability includes the injury that are suffered due to on automobile accidents.

1. First Aid at the Accident

2. Medical expenses for bodily injury

3. Money for lost wages

4. Death benefits

5. Lawyer Fees

Property damage liability makes the damage that is cause due to an automobile accident.

1. Homes, building, etc that receive structural damage

2. Restauration cost for other immobile objects

3. Automobile damage or total loss compensation

So now the question is what limits of coverage do I need? Each state has there own minimum guidelines. Usually around $15,000/$30,000 $15,000 but that will vary by state. When you look at the coverage’s I just wrote down you might be thinking there are three numbers there not two I don’t understand. Bodily injury liability coverage comes in two forms either split limit coverage which is shown above or single limit coverage.

Split Limit coverage: Limits are split into two for bodily injury coverage and then there is a separate coverage for property damage. If you take the example from above $15,000/$30,000 coverage, the $15,000 represents the total amount of bodily injury coverage that will be paid out to any one person during an accident. The $30,000 represents the total amount of bodily injury coverage that will be paid out for the entire accident. If you had a single limit of coverage it would include a maximum to be paid out but no individual maximum and it could be divided however needed.

The number that always ends your liability coverage is your property damage limit in the above example it is represented by $15,000.

By this point you could probably sue how state limits that are usually 15,000/30,000/15,000 might not be adequate coverage. With medical cost and the price of automobiles and property rising you might want to consider higher limits.

I would suggest never having coverage less than $100,000/$300,000 for bodily injury and $50,000 property damage with even higher coverage recommended. The cost to go from $15,000/$30,000 to $100,000/$300,000 or even higher shouldn’t be more than a couple of hundred dollars a year at most. I would rather spend a couple hundred dollars more per year than be stuck owing thousand due to medical bills for a person that I injured in an accident. When talking with your insurance agent always get quotes with higher liability limits so you can compare the different prices between coverage. If you need to off set cost a little and you are getting full coverage consider having a higher collision deductible, but insurance cost savings is another topic to be written about later.
