Smile for the Camera Phone

August 25, 2008

by Aretha Rudford

The mobile generation is riding a new wave of convenience. Camera phones are quickly replacing basic cell phones as the gadgets of choice for today’s on-the-move market.

It seems that most people have cell phones these days. There are WAP-enabled, Bluetooth and infrared-based models, but regardless of the style, we’ve all got ‘em. Not convinced? Try a little experiment and see for yourself:

Stand in a shopping mall, on a city street corner or in any other crowded public place, and arrange for a friend to call you. As your cell phone rings, take a look around to see how many other people are reaching to check their own phones.

Cell phone use has caught on like wildfire, and it’s not at all surprising. These phones are compact, affordable and ultra-convenient. Users can stay in touch from virtually any location, and make or receive calls to or from any almost anywhere in the world. What may be surprising is the fact that so many people are trading up to new camera phones.

Today’s cell phones are like the Swiss army knives of the communication world. With just a touch of a button they can be used to instantly send and receive e-mail and text messages, play games, surf the Internet and keep track of appointments. Best of all, each of these tasks can be accomplished while the user is out and about: at work, on the bus, in a restaurant or at a club. Now, the most exciting advancement in the average cell phone is the addition of photographing capabilities. The ability to take digital photographs from their handset is enough to send users out to the stores to replace their perfect good handsets with new camera phones.

The Japanese market was first to experience the thrill of the camera phone, and Asian cellular users immediately caught the camera phone bug. A few years later, manufacturers began marketing camera phones in the United States and these hot gadgets became available to the masses. While not overly popular at first, North Americans quickly began to appreciate the convenience of having a camera and cell phone together in one handset. Of course, the devices have become so well-received that some have predicted that camera phones will become the most popular consumer device in history.

According to industry analysts, camera phones comprised 12% of the total cell phones sold in 2003, and predicted those numbers to rapidly climb. A research firm called IDC suggested that more than 80 million camera cell phones have been sold worldwide.

So, why not simply carry a phone and a camera? You’ll appreciate the difference at that moment when you spot the perfect sunset at the beach, and your camera is locked in the trunk of your car three miles up the shore. And, you’ll be thankful for this new technology when you bump into your favorite movie star at a busy restaurant and get an impromptu photo shoot with your pocket camera phone. Better yet, you’ll be able to instantly email the photo to your friends.

Having a digital camera built into a cell phone may seem like a novelty or a luxury, but there’s no better way to capture life’s most perfect moments, and hold them for a lifetime.

8 Tips To Learn Guitar Scales for Guitar improvisation

August 24, 2008

by Mike Brown

Scales are an important portion of your creativity, regardless of whichever scales you desire! The more scales you know, the more ways you have of expressing yourself. If you want to take a proved and tested path that will allow you to play the music of many master musicians, I would suggest you learn scales in the following order.

1. Minor Pentatonic. This is the 1st scale and a lot of people learn it. It is easy because it only has 5 notes, and it opens up huge possibilities for improvisation. Some guitar players never require more than this scale.

2. Major pentatonic. This is pretty alike and is a variation of the minor pentatonic.

3. Major Scale. This scale is the base of western music.

4. Natural Minor scale. The major scale and natural minor scale both form the backbone of western music. You can use the pentatonic scale wherever you apply the minor scale because the pentatonic is in reality the minor scale with just a a couple of notes.
With the above collection of scales you can play 95% of music that you are familiar with. If you stop here you can still be a very efficient instrumentalist. The next scales are more particular in their application, but rarer and cooler and will start to hand your music with a more unique and distinctive feel.

5. Harmonic Minor/Melodic Minor. Two variations of the lower-ranking scales that give a different feel, particularly the harmonic minor.

6. The major modes are Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian. These Modes are built according to particular rules. Depending on your own choice, they will give your music of a peculiar feel. The taking of modes helps you greatly when you are thoroughly experienced with the scales I stated previous.

A lot of people don’t make it past the major modes - by the time you master the major modes and the other scales, you are skillful musician, with a large range of scales and stylings to feed into your musical composition and soloing.

7. Exotic Scales. I call any scale that I haven’t listed above an “exotic scale” - that’s simply my tag for it. There are hundreds of exotic scales, many of them used in specific types of folk music or Jazz. You could spend many years learning them all, and you can find reference books on them such as the Guitar Grimoire.

8. Modes of Exotic scales. Every scale has associated modes; it is not true that modes just exist for major scales. They offer you an even wider palette of tones to choose from.

4 Tips To Buy The Right Karaoke Disc For Your Player

August 21, 2008

by Rachel P

When building your own karaoke library, there are a number of certain factors you must look out for when selecting the right karaoke CDs and DVDs. The biggest thing to remember is always make sure your karaoke player can handle the right format of the CDs or DVDs that you are purchasing.

While most karaoke systems are able to handle most formats, and most karaoke CDs and DVDs work on most systems, it is best to double check to ensure that your purchases will not be done in waste. If using a more advanced karaoke system, most are able to handle almost all formats karaoke CDs and DVDs, but by going through the formats it will handle it will make sure you are not frustrated when it does not work. By simply double-checking, you can set your mind at ease and be confident that your purchase will work without a worry.

When selecting what karaoke CDs and DVDs you want to start building you library, make sure you pick the ones that you know will be used. While most people would like to have a complete library that covers all music styles and genres, it can become pointless to purchase a number of tracks that you have no interest in ever singing.

A better option is to look for titles that contain tracks that you are interested in. That way you can ensure that your purchase will be put to good use instead of simply collecting dust. However if you are someone who is constantly throwing karaoke parties or inviting friends over to enjoy your karaoke machine, make sure you get titles that have some form of overall appeal of the singing group.

There is nothing wrong in having your own collection that is suited specifically to your tastes, but if you are a massive fan of country and your friends cannot stand it at all, it can make your karaoke parties a little bit lacklustre.

Finally, what you have to keep in mind when deciding what karaoke CDs and DVDs you are purchasing is what you will get the most enjoyment out of. If you use your machine mainly to practice for your time on stage, then look for specific titles that contain tracks that you will sing, but if you want to use your karaoke machine for a bit of social enjoyment, look at compilations or karaoke CDs that cover a wide range of songs. That way everyone can get into the fun.

Buying A Karaoke Machine With The Most Value

August 21, 2008

by Christine D

So you’ve decided to buy your own karaoke system! One of the most important questions to consider, when looking to purchase a karaoke machine, is: “How will I build my karaoke song library?” Our suggestion is to simply get a karaoke machine with in built songs! Why?

You Save Money

If you end up with a system where you need to purchase separate disks for every song, just think of the expense involved in obtaining an adequate number of songs! These separate disks vary in cost from $10 to $20 each! You are looking at over $1,000 for only a hundred disks!

You Get A Large Selection of Songs Instantly

And is 100 disks even enough? What if you want to have a party? A karaoke machine with in built songs gives you an extensive library of karaoke songs instantly, the moment you purchase the machine! No laboring over building a library piece by piece! No spending thousands of dollars to build your library the hard way.

There is another thing to think about, also. Different types of karaoke machines use different types of karaoke song disks. For example, some of them use DVDs. Some of them use CDGs. But very few of them will be able to play both kinds. If you end up changing machines, you may find yourself starting from scratch in building your library again. Ouch!

You Save Time

Another reason you may want to consider a karaoke machine with in built songs is simply for the ease of organization. When you are using karaoke song disks, you will always have to be looking through all the disks for each and every song. Reorganizing the disks will be a constant job. If you keep a hard copy song list available for your guests, you will also need to remember to update it every time you get another disk.

When you want to take your karaoke player with you, if you have disks, you need to load up your entire library. Then you need to keep track of them all so you get them all back home again.

With all this constant rummaging through and organizing your disks, when do you have the time to just enjoy your karaoke machine?

You Save Space

Having a library of disks also takes up space. Think of how much room your DVDs and CDs already take up. Do you really want to bring in hundreds more to add to the clutter?

It’s Easy and Convenient

When you have a karaoke machine with in built songs, you get a lot of advantages that add to the ease and convenience of using your karaoke machine. You can find and choose your songs with a couple of clicks on your remote control. You always have every song available. Your song list is always up to date. You don’t have to keep track of hundreds of disks. Such ease and convenience adds value to your karaoke machine because you enjoy it so much more!

There is one karaoke machine with in built songs that we highly recommend. The SongStation Karaoke Machine comes with an instant library of 53,000 songs - the largest collection of karaoke songs on the planet! You just can’t get any better than this.

In addition to the huge song selection, this karaoke machine is high quality, has a host of fun features most other karaoke machines don’t have, will also play any other type of disk you already have, and doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg. Recreation While Camping

August 21, 2008

by Gray Rollins

Camping is a fun and budget friendly activity for most families. I’ve seen some people bring along every creature comfort form home they can think of, but they’re missing the spirit of things a bit. Camping itself can be all the entertainment you’ll need.

The fun starts as soon as you reach your destination. You get to pick a place to set up your tent. You can start exploring your campground a bit. Then you get to start a fire, start making hot dogs and roasting marshmallows, and have a blast hanging out talking and laughing.

However, the campground is just the beginning of the allure of camping. National parks and state parks are full of free or inexpensive activities which are sure to create fond memories for your kids for the rest of their lives. Let’s take hiking as an example. Really, it doesn’t sound like it’s that cool since you’re pretty much just walking around. However, getting to hike across streams, play on scenic outlooks and climbing on rocks will make what sounded at first like a simple walk a great adventure.

Generally speaking, the park you’re staying at is going to have a lake. Sure, there are some where there isn’t one, but usually there will be at least one. And lakes offer a whole host of activities on their own like swimming, boating, and fishing. Swimming in a lake can make the local swimming pool seem like a boring place indeed.

And if you don’t own a boat yet you still want to go boating, frequently you still can. Many parks offer boat rentals and the rates tend to be reasonable. And while you’re out on the boat you may as well try your hand at fishing. You never know what you might catch. And heck, even if you don’t catch anything you still can have a great time.

And if water isn’t your thing, then take a trip down to the visitor’s center of your park. You can learn a lot about where you’re visiting since there are usually a lot of maps, pictures, etc.

But don’t forget the park rangers when you leave the Visitor’s Information Center. Very often rangers conduct nature walks, lectures, tours of local wild life locations and lots of other programs that are helpful in learning more about the geology and history of the area and lots of fun for the kids. You may have to finally rein your children in when they can’t stop coming up with questions for the park rangers. But don’t bother, the rangers love it because they live to teach excited young minds about enjoying and caring for the natural wonders of their national parks.

There really isn’t a whole lot that is more fun than just going out in nature and hiking and camping. You’ll probably be amazed at how economical your camping activities are - most of them will be free. And the memories from those trips will last a lifetime.

6 Questions You Must Ask Before Buying A Guitar

August 21, 2008

by Jon Smith

When the time comes to choosing the proper guitar for you, the most significant point to keep d in mind is what kind of music are you looking at playing?

Rock or Blues Guitar Music

If you are searching at executing rock or blues music, the best guitar would be an Electric guitar. The key here is to start small and become big. I have seen so many people go out and buy the most high-priced equipment before they can play anything. You may have your heart determine on developing big names like a new Gibson Les Paul or a Fender Stratocaster, but the prices are pretty sharp.

When picking out your first electric guitar, the best thing is a copy of an original i.e. Plywood. The voice between an basic Real Wood compare to Plywood is a lot better, yet plywood is much cheaper. My proposition is to go for small trademarks like Legend, Onyx or Orion for now. Once you have complete the fundamental principle, then it is the time to raise.

Another option is to buy Second hand guitars from the markete. There are some great deals becoming in the local papers. When attending for a guitar, make sure you plug it in and try it out. Catch the lather if need be and put the guitar around your neck. Get every possible bit of information you can before making a conclusion.

Tips:Bear in mind that when you purchase an electric guitar, you will also need an amplifier. There are some great deals going whereby you can choose guitar, amplifier and lead in one package. One final hint is when choosing your guitar; REMEMBER to secure it into an amplifier akin to what you are buying. There is no use testing your guitar through the most pricey amplifier in the store. It will not sound the same when you play through your own amplifier at home. Choosing the right amplifier is important; this topic will be explained in the next lesson.

Classical Acoustic Music.

If you are looking at playing Classic Acoustic music then Spanish Classic Acoustic Guitar and Steel String Acoustic guitar are the most appropriate to choose.

Spanish Classic Acoustic Guitars are exceedingly clear and having nylon strings which are very soft on your fingers. They come in a range of different sizes even very small size for young kids. Spanish Classic Acoustic guitars are also a lot more commercial and easier to maintain than Steel String Acoustic Guitar.

Steel String Acoustic Guitars are a little more expensive compare to Spanish guitars. Again, with acoustic guitars, there is no need to go for big brands when you are first starting out. The most main thing is that you feel soothing playing it. Also, make sure your fingers fit around the guitar neck and it is not too big for you to play.
