Adult Acne And The Natural Herbal Solution

by Michele Robbins

People from ages twenty-one through forty and up can be affected by a very common skin condition, adult acne. The most to suffer from this chronic disorder are women. Symptoms can include pimples, blocked pores, whiteheads, and blackheads. Acne can manifest itself wherever the skin’s oil glands are located, such as the chest and back but mostly on the face.

Factors that encourage adult acne are very different from those involved with juvenile acne. Adult acne usually involves normal or combination skin or even dry and sensitive skin, rather than oily skin which is the typical cause of juvenile acne. One form of acne called acne vulgaris is characterized by the presence of, pimples, black heads, small superficial sebaceous cysts and scars.

There are several factors can lead to acne in adults, stress being a major contributor. Stress causes the production of the steroidal hormone cortisol which encourages acne. Other factors including caffeine intake, also lead to increased cortisol production. Adult acne may also be caused by smoking, insufficient dietary free fatty acid content and poor diet.

Millions are afflicted by acne the world over. Many of the products that you can get over-the-counter for treating acne include harsh chemicals, which may contribute to the deterioration of your skin, and only be a temporary remedy for your acne. As people become more aware of the dangers of these treatments, they are turning more and more to natural and herbal acne treatments. Herbal treatments are softer on the skin, and don’t contain any of those dangerous chemicals, being a mixture of natural plants and herbs.

Natural treatments for adult acne can be in the form of lotions, creams, home made products or even herbal formulations. Some of the herbal acne treatments use echinacea and tea tree oil for treating acne and is available widely. Echinacea and Oregon grape help in increasing the immune system of the body. Tea tree oil consists of terpenoids, which is known for its antifungal and antiseptic property.

Almond oil is very good in removing acne scars. Apricot and citrus juices lessen the presence of cysts and acts as a natural exfoliate, getting rid of the dead skin cells making the pores free from clogs. Distilled white vinegar can also be applied as a topical solution on the affected area to cleanse the pores. Honey mask helps in the healing process of the skin affected by acne due to the anti bacterial quality.

Green tea, chamomile and oatmeal are superb herbs for treating inflammation due to its anti inflammatory properties. When the affected part is washed with oatmeal, the itching sensation is greatly reduced. Ginger helps to reduce the redness and inflammation. Licorice increases mucous secretion, stimulating the adrenal gland function encouraging the natural defense system of the body into overdrive to remove bacteria and germs responsible for acne.
