If you are one of the millions of people around the world suffering from obesity, then you have probably tried all sorts of different diet plans in an attempt to get the weight off. If any of them had worked, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article.
But help has arrived for these folks: It’s a revolutionary dieting technique known as calorie shifting. Whereas most diets fail to take into account certain natural tendencies of the body, the calorie shifting diet does recognize these tendencies, and uses them to your advantage.
Traditional diets all involve to some extent or another depriving your body of the calories and nutrients it needs to operate. They attempt to force your body to use up its fat to stay functioning. This approach can simply never work. Starving is painful – your body breaks down muscle to stay alive before fat, and after some time has passed anyone and everyone starving themselves will break down and eat.
The problem is that your body is in emergency mode, and all that food you eat gets stored as – you guessed it, fat. So the total effect of these starvation diets is a loss of muscle tissues, more excess fat than before, and a feeling of failure because you couldn’t overcome your basic survival instincts.
Calorie shifting effectively takes on these weaknesses associated with traditional dieting. With a calorie shifting program, instead of three daily meals, you eat four or five smaller ones during the course of the day. You eat the foods you like and alternate them with lower-fat ones. The key to making this work is to keep mixing things up: different foods with different calorie amounts all the time.
When you eat, you do so until you get rid of the hunger pangs, but stop eating while you’re still just a bit hungry. You want your body to always be guessing about what’s coming next, and never completely deciding that it needs to go into starvation mode (wherein it would again begin consuming muscle tissue). You want it to instead consume fat to replace the energy its lost from the missing calories.
The net effect is that you are able to stay on the diet since you aren’t starving yourself, while preventing any muscular damage by letting your body use its fat stores instead of muscle tissues to make up for the lower calorie intake.
As with any diet plan, a calorie shifting diet plan will benefit greatly from even a small amount of exercise every day – say a short walk to start. You may find yourself enjoying it, and increase your exercise amount later, or don’t; it’s completely up to you. The best thing about a calorie shifting diet plan is that there aren’t the risks associated with exercise while starvation dieting. If you are using more calories in exercise, you will naturally compensate by eating more – a calorie shifting diet plan allows for that.
It’s true: Dieting doesn’t have to be a miserable experience. You can still enjoy food while losing weight. Calorie shifting, along with exercise, is the key to making this a reality.
