Ionic Air Purifiers Are Not Right for Everyone

by Jason Mann

In May 2005, the respected publication “Consumer Reports” undertook an informed and impartial review of ionic air purifiers. They came to the conclusion that a generally healthy individual would really be better off without one, although they did comment that such air purifiers could be useful for those suffering with serious heath issues such as asthma, acute allergies or bronchitis.

Should You Buy One Anyhow?

If you have been considering the purchase of an ionic air purifier just for the sake of it and you do not have any kind of severe breathing problems as mentioned earlier, then forget it – you could end up doing yourself some real damage.

To begin with, there really isn’t anything so small in the atmosphere doing you any harm that an ionic air purifier could filter out.

It’s strongly recommended by “Consumer Reports” and various other product reviews that healthy people should not use one of these kinds of purifiers. The sole exception to this was for a non-smoker who had the misfortune of living with a person who smokes. The only real cure for this is to either convince the smoker to give up tobacco or move out of the house but until the time that either of these occurs, an air purifier like the Ionic Pro will help reduce the stink and irritation caused by the smoker.

Concerns of an Environmental Nature

The use of an ionic air purifier should only be by those who will see health benefits from it and even then its use should be kept to a minimum. Using one just because you have one can endanger the earth and add to the global warming problems, not to mention the damage it will do to your bronchial tract and lungs.

Ionic air purifiers work by generating ozone. Yes, you have heard of this before. It’s the same type of ozone that caused the holes in our planet’s outer protective atmospheric layer and in large amounts it is toxic. When you have an ionic air purifier you are exposed to seriously high emissions of ozone and folks have been shown to have ozone in the lungs when using ionic air purifiers.

To summarize, there’s a lot of unsubstantiated hype when it comes down to air purifiers, whatever type they are. Instead of expecting technology and medicine to rescue us from the problems we encounter, we really should be focusing on putting an end to global warming and not having to rely on electronic gadgets to allow us to breathe clean air deep into our lungs.
