Vitamins are vital nutrients which are required in different quantities by all living organisms. It is one of the basic building blocks of a balanced diet, and serves a number of different purposes in the body. Their functions are manifold, and a small regular intake of vitamins ensures a healthy and disease-free body.

Vitamins are complex chemical compounds which are required in minuscule amounts by the human body. Vitamins have a unique property- they cannot be produced within the biological system of the human body in adequate amounts, and therefore have to be supplied externally, as a part of the everyday diet. Vitamins have different properties and characteristics, and their need in the body, too, is for diverse and varied purposes.

It became very apparent with the onset of various vitamin deficiency diseases that we must supplement our intake of these crucial compounds. The average balanced diet is just not good enough any more. As science has caught up with most of the rest of society, doctors, nutritionist and biologist all have expounded the importance of vitamin supplementation.

There are two main classifications of vitamins, those that are water soluble and the ones that are oil or fat soluble. These classifications are not base on the chemical structure of the vitamins, but rather in terms of what they do for the body. Vitamin A,D, E and K are in the fat soluble family and vitamin B and C are both water soluble vitamins.

Vitamins by definition are compound that are gotten from outside the body. But that does not mean the only way to get a vitamin is to ingest it. We get a very important vitamin, vitamin D from exposure to sunlight and the ultraviolet rays it contains.

Since vitamins perform such specific and important functions in the intricate machinery that is the human body, it is now surprise that vitamin deficiencies are a major contributor to a variety of diseases and conditions of the human body. Many of these conditions such as Beriberi, scurvy, rickets and night blindness are seen to be rising again in the human population.

Given the state of the modern diet, it is imperative that vitamin supplementation be added to every persons nutritional plan. The sad truth is that a good balance ed diet is just not good enough. Quality vitamin supplements are readily available in many forms such as liquid vitamins, capsules, tablets sprays and misters. Find one that works best for you.
