What Causes Hair Loss In Women
Today in the United States alone, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, around 30 million women are now affected by the problem of hair loss. Although it is common in older women, especially when they reach menopause, it is also being seen in a large numbers of younger women as well. In this article, we will take a look at some of the causes of hair loss in women today.
The main causes of hair loss in women are related to the same factors as hair loss in men. Similar to men, women may lose hair because of age, genetics, or they may have a problem related to hormone levels. Along with these, there are other factors that can cause hair loss in women.
However, below we are going to be taking a closer look at some of the medical causes for hair loss in women today. As long as the right diagnosis is provided by a woman’s doctor or dermatologist then this particular health problem can then be treated.
1. Some women begin to lose their hair because they are suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome which is a very common hormonal problem that many women suffer from today. In some cases, the only way a doctor is able to diagnose that they are suffering from this particular health condition is because the woman has begun to lose hair.
2. Another reason why some women may be losing hair is because they are undergoing some form of treatment because they are suffering from an autoimmune disorder. In cases like this, the hair loss can be quite dramatic in some cases it comes out in large clumps or patches.
3. There is another medical condition that can cause hair loss in women and that is Telogen Effluvium. This type of hair loss may occur after an event in a women’s life alters there hormone levels. Some events that may lead to this are child birth, using a crash diet, surgery, or it could even be something traumatic that has happened.
It is important that before any type of treatment is taken a medical doctor should be consulted. You will want to do this for a few reasons, primarily because the doctor will be able to find the underlying cause of the hair loss to be treated. This also works in your favor as you will not be doing something that may cause the problem to become worse.
Above we have mentioned just a few of the causes of hair loss in women, but it does not mean it will happen to you. However, do not be worried when washing your hair or brushing if you notice a few more hairs than usual falling out this is just a natural part of life and the aging process. Should hair loss become excessive then you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.
