Key Facts About Online MBA Rankings

by Peter Knight

The ranking of schools have always been a controversial issue because different schools or education institutes have different strengths and weaknesses, and the rankings of each different strength and weaknesses are usually impossible to be measured in mathematical terms.

In this ranking system, a number of criteria are used to find out the existing position of these business schools and their programs. It is based on the questionnaire answers and by comparing the different aspects of these MBA programs. The ranking list is put up each year. There are a number of agencies, including the US MBA rankings – FT, the US News and World Report, and the ComputerWorld’s Top 25 Techno MBAs, conducting this ranking process by evaluating part time and full time graduate business programs.

As MBA programs became more prevalent, various publications in newsprint and in magazines began to talk about the differences in the programs. From this, a series of informal rankings began to emerge and people started to rank the programs as a way of comparison. Eventually, periodical publications became popular and these contained the MBA rankings. Online MBA rankings were, of course, the next logical step in distributing these rankings to the public. Several magazines, such as Forbes, dedicate large amounts of issues to the MBA rankings each year.

For most of the universities it is at the discretion of the student to attend classes whenever he wants. He can participate in the online discussions any time trough chat, emails, newsgroups etc. Several universities such as the Phoenix University have limited the classes to 20 in order to ensure that the learning sessions are productive and interactive. Throughout each course the student receives lectures, questions and assignments from his instructor. Since these assignments are in electronic form, these can be saved, printed out to make notes. You can take the help of your professor in this regard. Also make sure that you improve by your work by taking continuous feedback from your professor.

Most MBA rankings are not considered as a standard measure to evaluate an MBA program or a business school. Different sources have different methodologies, so a wide variation can be seen among these results. But these reviews provide an insight of the quality of the program or schools and are valuable for anyone who is intending to take an MBA degree.
